Our puppy classes teach basic control, proper socialization and good manners for dogs 3 to 6 months of age. This 4 week course will introduce you and your dog to basic obedience commands, as well as help you resolve common behavioral problems like barking, housebreaking, chewing, biting, jumping; all the things puppies love to do. Remember your puppy has the mental capacity of a child. Just like children, puppies have a short attention span and will be temperamental. Have patience and understanding. Be fair and focus on improving behavior rather than punishing.Your pup is in the most important stage of its life. Habits formed now will have a great effect on your pup's adult behavior. Good training while they are young will save you time and headache in the future. You will need a 6 foot leash and bring their favorite toy! No Flexi leads and No treats.
The fee is $65.
Our 7 week starter course designed for dogs six months of age and older is great for owners needing to learn how to better communicate with their dogs. Our focus includes enforcing good manners, teaching obedience tasks, and encouraging proper socialization. Learning how to be a good teacher and respecting the way your dog thinks is a critical part of the training process. Obedience training should not be an unpleasant experience for you or your dog. The keys to success are patience, consistency, and practice. The more effort you put in, the better the results. Having a well trained dog, that understands their position in the pack, will allow you to give them more freedom in the future. This process takes time and an honest commitment from you. In the end, however, a dog that knows the rules is happier, more confident and a pleasure to have around. You will need: flat collar, 6 foot leash, vaccination records (if not already shown). Training collars are provided and properly demonstrated if necessary. The fee is $110.
Once basic commands are learned, you must focus on control of your dog while they are exposed to a variety of diversions. This is called proofing. By creating these distractions and having them follow through with our commands, we recreate situations which may occur while "in the real world". However, it is a controlled environment where positive behaviors can be encouraged and other behaviors corrected. In essence, this course will start to refine your dogs skills and begin to make you a proud parent. Although, we try hard to make all our classes fun, this one is much more interactive and challenging for both people and dogs. We will do some outdoor work as well as introduce the dogs to a variety of canine events including Agility, Show Obedience and Hollywood Tricks. The goal is to have everyone look forward to coming to Top Dog and to complete this course with not just a pet, but a reliable companion. You will need: flat or training collar, 6 foot leash. No favorite toy or long line needed. The fee is $110
Advanced
This 4 week off-leash course will polish your dogs' obedience skills to a shine. Much of this course will address the skills introduced during Intermediate classes and advance to more challenging levels. These classes tend to be smaller which allows for more individual attention. We will also tailor this course to the interests of the dogs and owners present. Advanced Obedience is for the serious owner who wants an exceptionally well trained dog. You will need a tab leash.
The fee is $65
